Cursed legacy

During his visit to the State of Roraima, in the north of Brazil, on 14 Sep last, President Lula signed the act establishing the demarcation of a new and monumental Indigenous Reservation (600 acres for each indigenous!) in that state. This reserve, called Anaro, 113 km away from Boa Vista, is among the São Marcos Indigenous Reserve and the huge reserves Raposa Serra do Sol and Yanomami, located in the “ears” of Roraima – the newest and poorest of the federative entity – that just if “reterritorialized” moreover, can become the first indigenous state in Brazil (to then be able to plead their separation from the whole country). Powerful transnational organizations want more, or want to complete the physical integration of the indigenous reservations north of the Amazonas-Solimões River, rich in biodiversity and mineral resources of third generation, to be created a huge indigenous nation in single and continuous territory, based mainly on the ILO Convention 169 (confirmed by the Brazilian legislation – Decree No. 5051/2004) and by the Universal Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, adopted by the UN, with the unfortunate vote of the Brazilian delegates. Not surprising, then, that having already obtained a “limited sovereignty” in the territories of its mammoth reserves, the indigenous encouraged by FUNAI and national and foreign NGOs, want the creation of “Indigenous Nations” that will have, for sure, the recognition of independence and self-determination in international forums. By the way, was adduced that the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), composed of indigenous entities in Brazil, Peru, Guyana, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, French Department – Former French Guiana – Suriname and Colombia, aims to create “Abya Yala”, name of a vast region of America, inhabited by Indians before the arrival of Europeans in the lands of present Peru, Colombia and Panama.

In this huge area would live various ethnic tribal groups forming multicultural nations (puppet States) at the expense of amputation of the territories of National Sovereign States. Also, is already disclosed the creation of large “Guarani Nation” formed by the fragmentation of land in several countries, including Brazil, and it would barely finished the rebuilding of the Theocratic Empire of the Jesuit, with its many indigenous reductions as the “Seven People of Misiones”. In Brazil, it all started in 1991, with the continuous demarcation of a huge Indian reservation, unpatriotic, on the border with Venezuela. In this country had already been defined an another reservation for Indians of the same ethnicity, adjacent to the reservation mentioned above, taking an immense Amazonian enclave in two countries to an indigenous minority, without being respected “the frontier” (it is mentioned for illustration of similar fact occurred in the recent demarcation of Indian Reservation Raposa Serra do Sol). This border strip of 150 km, in the current Constitution and was established, since our Independence, the former “Land Law”. Then, as occurred before the trial by the Supreme Court about the question of the Raposa Serra do Sol, the voices of flashy Brazilian nationalists rose up against that foolish act, serving to highlight the serious warnings of the late jurist and emeritus Clovis Ramalhete (he was Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, and Consultant General’s Office), who wrote in the Military Club in Feb 2001, an important article titled “The Army and the Amazon,” thus concluding’: “It is therefore to understand that, even in court, there be a recognition of “relevant interest” that the Union will in undoing the unfortunate act which made the granting of land to the Yanomami, at the “Border Strip.” It was the result of recklessness and incompetence, and is now the cursed legacy of Collor. However, the act was not broken and, worse still, other boundaries have taken place without the preservation of the border strip – real attack on national sovereignty – especially in the coveted Amazon. And, over time, new accursed inheritance emerged that now multiply …

And all, regrettably, with the approval of FUNAI and the chaotic indigenous policy, in order that aborigines remain segregated in their tribal state, instilling the idea that national states are threats to their interests. And they lie, outright, as they did in relation to the illustrious Marechal Rondon, saying he was opposed to the integration of forestry to the national community. This fallacy was disproved sufficiently by former Military Commander of the Amazon, Army General Claudio Barbosa de Figueiredo, through print and television. In fact, according to own statements, Rondon always pushed for the “dream of José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva” – “The Patriarch of Independence” and “Creator of the Brazilian nation,” in order to incorporate the Indian, decisively and spontaneously, to Brazilian civilization. ”
May God keep us away from these cursed legacy and from the continuing acts detrimental to national unity!
